“Nothing brings me greater joy than catalyzing others to dance,” says Deborah Cohan
An operating room might sound like an inappropriate place to bust a move to Beyonce, but that’s where Deborah Cohan decided to get down, minutes before her double mastectomy Tuesday. Cohan, an OB-GYN and mother of two, enlisted her medical team at the University of California-San Francisco Medical Center at Mount Zion to take part in a dance party before she went under the knife, the Huffington Post reports, and the result is a viral video that has viewers praising Cohan’s strength, courage, and sense of humor.
In a post on CaringBridge, Cohan explained, “I will be dancing in my little hospital gown and bouffant cap in the Mt. Zion operating room with the surgical and anesthesia teams. My fantasy is for you to play the song and dance wherever you happen to be.” She asked friends and family to send her photos and videos of their dance moves for “a healing video montage,” CNN notes. Why? “Nothing brings me greater joy than catalyzing others to dance, move, be in their bodies,” Cohan wrote.
