HIV Rate Could Hit 50% for Gay and Bisexual Black Men in US
A conjugal visit is a scheduled period in which an inmate of a prison or jail is permitted to spend several hours or days in private with a visitor, usually their legal spouse. The parties may engage in sexual activity.
Conjugal visits are not the norm for most of the male inmates serving time in prison. Many are serving twenty five years to life without any physical contact with the opposite sex. Self satisfaction only goes so far, the need for human contact with a woman is a natural desire. Denying men that act will cause men to turn to each other sexually and oftentimes, emotionally until the mind of these men becomes blind to the fact they are having sex with each other to satisfy that emotional and sexual need. Unprotected sex is dangerous for anyone and for inmates the thought of contracting HIV is in the back of their minds but they take the risk believing they are on lockdown and may not get to be with a woman intimately for quite a long time. Oftentimes, when some inmates are eventually released, the desire to continue being sexually intimate with a man continues because the act is what they were accustomed to while in prison so then they are trying to be men who want to have sex with women so they would no longer question their manhood.
