Camille Cosby Stands By Her Man

Why wasn’t she standing by Bill on day one of his trial? She’s probably still mad as hell he cheated on her. Hell has no fury like a woman scorned. The big question is will Cosby testify and will he be believed by the jury. Or, will the jury see him as Cliff Huxtable?

Monday’s big question: Will the comedian testify?

Bill Cosby arrived at court Monday morning for Day 6 of his sexual assault trial and the start of the defense side of the case, accompanied by his wife of 53 years, Camille. Camille Cosby’s arrival marked the first time during the trial of the comedian once known as America’s Dad that a family member was at his side, reports the AP. The couple have four daughters. The prosecution rested its case Friday after five swift days of testimony in the case that could send the 79-year-old Cosby to prison for the rest of his life, and the question now hanging over the case is whether the TV star will testify. Cosby’s spokesman said last week that the comic might take the stand, but his lawyers were mum.
Cosby could charm jurors by testifying. But experts said the legal risks would be considerable. “He could be a fantastic witness. … He’s an actor and he’s a very good actor,” says Duquesne University School of Law professor Wes Oliver. But “he is potentially opening the door to a whole lot of cross-examination that they fought really hard to keep out.” And that’s not all:  Read on…

Chimp Sues Over Living Conditions

Next to file: dolphins, elephants

By Matt Cantor, Newser Staff

A lawyer and his team are fighting for animal rights in an unusual way: by filing lawsuits on behalf of chimpanzees. The New York Times focuses on the case of Tommy, a chimp who is, as Charles Siebert writes, effectively suing for better living conditions. Despite protections under the law, Siebert notes, “the fundamental legal status of nonhumans … as property, with no rights of their own, has remained unchanged.” But legal expert Steven Wise, who is leading the effort, argues that one need not be a human being to be a legal person.

Clippers Owner Doesn’t Want Black Players At His Games

Does Clippers Owner Want Black Players At His Games?

L.A. Clippers Owner to GF:

Don’t Bring Black People to My Games …

Including Magic Johnson

L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling told his GF he does NOT want her bringing black people to his games … including Magic Johnson … and it’s ALL on tape.

TMZ Sports has obtained audio of Sterling making the racist declaration during a heated argument on April 9th with V. Stiviano … after she posted a photo on Instagram posing with Magic.

Sterling rails on Stiviano — who ironically is black and Mexican — for putting herself out in public with a black person (she has since taken the pic down). But it doesn’t end there. You have to listen to the audio to fully grasp the magnitude of Sterling’s racist worldview. Among the comments:

— “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?” (3:30)

— “You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.” (5:15)

— “I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.” (7:45)

Limbaugh: Clinton Staged Shoe-Throwing

Suspect disrupted Holmes hearing in 2012

By Rob Quinn, Newser Staff

Is Hillary Clinton gearing up for a White House run by having stooges chuck shoes at her? That appears to be Rush Limbaugh’s theory: He told listeners yesterday that he has “people telling me her reaction wasn’t natural,” Politico reports. He explained that he found it hard to care about the incident last week, “because in my subconscious I think it was staged or set up or whatever. Look, folks, I know these people so well that I do not attach much genuineness to them at all.”

The alleged shoe-thrower, Alison Ernst, faces misdemeanor federal charges including trespassing in a restricted building and while Limbaugh complained that the media “doesn’t seem to have much interest in what motivated” her, the 36-year-old’s motive may prove hard to explain, the New York Daily News finds.

Women Get Lab-Grown Vaginas

Patients now have normal sexual function

By Rob Quinn, Newser Staff

Four young women are experiencing normal levels of “desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction” and pain-free intercourse after having lab-grown vaginas implanted, doctors say. The implants—created in a US lab with tissue samples and a biodegradable scaffold—were used in teenage patients starting eight years ago, but this is the first time the results have been made public, the BBC reports. The implants became indistinguishable from native tissue within months and the women are theoretically now able to have children, reports NBC.

Thin Girl Won’t Be Expelled From Yale

Thin Girl Won't Be Expelled From Yale

Yale student Frances Chan is naturally thin at 5-foot-2 and 95 pounds, just like her parents and grandparents before her. But when she visited the school’s health center on an unrelated matter, officials there deemed her too thin and demanded that she gain weight or face expulsion, reports the New Haven Register. Chan did her best for weeks, scarfing down junk food and forgoing stairs, but it was no use. When a nurse told her that the 2 pounds she gained wasn’t good enough, Chan vented publicly in an essay at the Huffington Post. It worked

5 Servings of Fruit, Veggies Don’t Cut It

Study: 7 servings is optimal in terms of dropping death risk

By Matt Cantor, Newser Staff

Even if you’re a proud consumer of five servings of fruits and vegetables daily, you’re not getting enough, an extensive British study suggests. And steer clear of the canned stuff. University College London researchers reviewed the diets of 65,000 people; they found that those who ate more fresh fruits and vegetables tended to live longer, and the magic threshold seemed to be seven-plus servings every day. Those who hit that level reduced their risk of death “from all causes” by 42% as compared to those who ate less than one portion daily, the Guardian reports. More specifically, those big on fruits and veggies saw a 31% lower risk of heart disease and a 25% lower risk of cancer.
